I'm spoiled, but I like this, too.
I am a retired accountant and have used several accounting software packages, so I am spoiled by those packages' simplicity of use. I am also unwilling to share my financial info online, and this checkbook register provides me with privacy I require. I just have to remind myself that a reduction has to have the "-" in front of any charges so it subtracts appropriately. I am impressed with this spreadsheet, though, and I am grateful to have it. As I use it, I am getting more in the habit of putting the "-" in front of charges, so I am not shocking myself with an overstated balance. Old dogs do learn new tricks......but it' done slowly. Thank you for this product!

I was still using Quicken 2007. I loved it It did what I needed. I knew how to use it. Then I bought a new Mac Air and its OS did not support Quicken 2007. All I wanted was a simple check register that allowed split entries. What a simple wish! That wish had me research countless programs. This seemed to be the only one that allowed split entries, so I went for it. There was a steep learning curve for me, and I had some glitches with mystery files on my HD and crashes, but George was right by my side helping me through them. I've now got the hang of the program, and find it very easy to use, and I highly recommend it. George's personalized support is appreciated! Give this a try as a Q2007 replacement!

Basic checkbook register - it keeps track of my expenses, and much cheaper than Quicken or other more complex systems. I would have liked to be able to enter a credit card bill, though, and be able to have subcategories it could total. I haven't been able to do that and had to enter each transaction individually.

I used a free checkbook template before from Microsoft, but this one lets me combine all my accounts in one spreadsheet, and keep track of cleared vs not cleared. I don't have to resort the spreadsheet every time to reconcile. The reconciled amounts are summarized for you. I've used Quicken in the past and it was terrible about reconciling accounts with my bank. It would duplicate a lot of transactions that were already downloaded. I prefer to enter them from each receipt so I can keep track of my spending. I love that you can create your own categories and then summarize the spending in each. Great tool! For many reasons, I stopped using Quicken when they moved to a subscription-based model, and ever since have been searching for an Excel template that would help me manage my personal finances. I wanted something that was easy to use and understand, but that was robust enough to accurately track income and expense AND provide reports to give me a snapshot of the year’s activity. Nothing I found could really come close. That is, until I stumbled upon the templates created by Mr. Alzamora. I initially purchased one of the checkbook registers, but then realized that I needed the budget + checkbook register to be able to have the split category function that was so important to me. Both products are easy to use and understand right from the get-go, and it’s really just a matter of personal preference as to which one you need.
